The Catchupa Factory residency included 12 selected photographers from Portuguese speaking countries including Cabo Verde, Angola, São Tomé and Príncipe and Mozambique. The residency looked at issues of contemporary art in Africa, brief overviews of the history of colonial views in Africa and the field of photography in general.
The residency aimed at developing a new body of work within the duration of the programme and presenting their new work to public. The concentrated residency was led by John Fleetwood.
Participating Photographers:
Rui Sergio Afonso, Angelo Lopes, Helder Doca, Herberto Smith, Carla Rebelo, Nuno Silas, César Schofield Cardoso, Edson Silva D, Grace Aline, Marcos Rocha de Pina, Delgado Evanilda and Mauro Vombe.

Founded in 2013, the AOJE is committed to the dissemination and promotion of photography and photographic activity, from the perspective of social, cultural and economic development.
The Catchupa Factory – Novos Fotógrafos 2017 is an initiative of the AOJE Association, with the support of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Ministry of Culture and Creative Industries of Cape Verde.
