’Five Photographers’ reflects on this world-renowned photographer and South African icon’s contribution to photography by looking at a new generation of photographers. This exhibition, one of the last projects that Goldblatt worked on, was developed as a tribute exhibition by the French Institut of South Africa to celebrate Goldblatt’s retrospective exhibition at the Centre Pompidou, Paris in Feb-May 2018.
It includes the work from 4 photographers that Goldblatt and John Fleetwood had selected, called ‘Five Photographers’. The exhibition title playfully references David as another photographer.
Previously exhibited at the the Gerard Sekoto Gallery, Alliance Française in Johannesburg (May 2018), at the Centro Cultural Franco-Moçambicano in Mozambique (Feb 2019), Café What?, Maseru, Lesotho (May 2019), National Arts Festival, Makhanda (Jun 2019) and to the Durban Art Gallery, South Africa (Aug 2019).

Internationally renowned, Rencontres de Bamako is the principal event dedicated to contemporary photography and new imagery in Africa. A platform for discoveries, exchanges, and visibility. It is an essential venue for the promotion of African photographers, and a time of exchange with the Malian public and the professionals from around the world.
This 12th edition of the African Biennale of Photography, which was created in 1994, marks the celebration of its 25th anniversary.
