Khartoum Photographers´ Master Class

The Annual Photographers' Master Class is taking place in Khartoum, Sudan from 21-25 September 2016. Curators Simon Njami, John Fleetwood, Katrin Peters-Klaphake, Akinbode Akinbiyi, Frédérique Chapuis and Chris Dercon will work with a group of 12 photographers from sub-Sahara Africa.
The Master Class, initiated by the Goethe-Institut South Africa and Simon Njami in 2008, has been taking place annually for the last seven years as a closed portfolio reading for young Sub-Saharan African photographers. It is a forum for practitioners to meet with curators both from this region and further afield.
The 2016 edition of the Photographers' Portfolio Meeting coincides with Mugran Foto Week in Khartoum, curated by one of the programmme’s graduates, Ala Kheir. The participating photographers from Cote d’Ivoire, DRC, Ghana, Mali, Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal and Sudan will also be able to critically engage with their own and others’ work and strengthen African photographer networks.
Eric Gyamfi, from Accra, Ghana, is a new nomination to the group. Gyamfi’s work predominantly consists of self-portraits and various portrait series’ that comments on his country’s continual transition to modernity in the light of its traditions and customs and the people caught therein.
