Co-conspirators: Solidarity in Practice

Co-conspirators: Solidarity in Practice is a conversation aimed at gaining a better understanding of the conditions that enable mutual support between small-scale arts organisations and collectives. In gathering practitioners from organisations across Southern and East Africa, this event imagines a far-reaching arts community whose makeshift and resourceful modes of working are reinforced by collaboration and shared knowledge.

Letaru Dralega (letaru.dralega): Ugandan-Jamaican-British artist based in Kampala. A social scientist by training, her practice includes collage, painting, and sound, focusing on postcolonial themes. Co-director of Afropocene Studio Lab and The Capsule gallery.
John Fleetwood: Photography curator, educator, and director of Photo:. Co-head of BA Photography at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, and convenes the Ernest Cole Award.
Jepkorir Rose: Nairobi-based curator creating spaces for artistic engagement through collaboration, research, and exhibition.
Anthea Buys: Curator and writer from South Africa. Between 2020-23 she ran FORMS Gallery.

Co-conspirators: Solidarity in Practice is a collaboration between Nairobi Print Project and Wherewithall, initiated by #OtherNetwork and ifa with support from Between Bridges and Stimuleringsfonds.

Wherewithall (WWA) supports independent exhibition-making in Johannesburg through equipment lending and a library of commissioned research and writing. Founded in 2020 by Kundai Moyo, Chloë Reid, and Amy Watson, WWA promotes sustainability and allyship in the arts.

Nairobi Print Project (NPP) is a platform dedicated to open access scholarship and conversation on art and curatorial practice in Africa and the Black Diaspora. Through critical engagement with historical and emerging themes in contemporary art, the project includes, a journal of commissioned texts, an engaging podcast and an open access library.
